Santa 2001 to Hand Over Revamped TJ Drury Gymnasium to Adisadel College
Old boys complete additional works on historic facility; official handover set for Saturday, 17th October 2026
Cape Coast ·
The 2001 Year Group of the Adisadel Old Boys Association, popularly known as Santa 2001, will this Saturday, 17th October 2026, formally hand over the completed TJ Drury Gymnasium project to Adisadel College, marking the end of one of the year group’s most ambitious contributions to its alma mater.
In a letter dated 12th October 2026 and addressed to the Head of the College, the President of the year group, Mr Jerry Lawson, formally notified School Management of the group’s intention to present the facility to the College following the completion of additional works at the gymnasium. The letter follows an earlier communication, dated 2nd October 2026, to the secretary of the Association’s Global Executive Council.

From anniversary pledge to finished facility
The gymnasium project first came to wide public attention in March this year, when Santa 2001 hosted Adisadel College’s 116th Anniversary, Speech and Prize-Giving Day. As part of its hosting duties, the year group remodelled the historic Drury Gymnasium and fitted it with modern equipment, restoring the decades-old facility for students’ use.
Since then, the year group has continued work on the building. With those additional works now complete, Santa 2001 says it is ready to officially present the facility to the College, giving more than 4,000 students on the hill access to a modern space for physical education, sports training and recreation.
A building with history
The gymnasium carries the name of T.J. Drury, who served as Headmaster of Adisadel College from 1959 to 1963. For generations of Santaclausians, the “Gym” has been part of the rhythm of school life — a venue for training, inter-house competition and school gatherings. Its restoration by a year group that passed through its doors a quarter of a century ago is a reminder of the strong bond between Adisadel’s old boys and the school.
Preparing for Saturday
In its letter, the year group asked School Management to advise on any formalities, protocols or requirements expected for the handover ceremony, so that the event can be conducted to the highest standard. Santa 2001 described the handover as a significant milestone that it believes will be a proud moment for the entire Adisadel community, and thanked the College for its continued partnership.
The handover is expected to bring together members of the year group, School Management, staff and students, as well as members of the wider Adisadel Old Boys Association.
Living the motto
The project is the latest example of Adisadel alumni investing directly in the school’s infrastructure. At the 116th anniversary celebration, the Headmaster, Mr Samuel Kofi Agudogo, commended the College’s old boys for their contributions to teaching and learning. Santa 2001’s gymnasium project extends that tradition — and, in the spirit of the school motto, Vel Primus, Vel Cum Primis (“Either the first, or with the first”), aims to give today’s students a facility that matches their ambitions.
