Legacy project aims to deliver reliable and sustainable water to more than 5,000 students and staff, with commissioning set for March 2027
The 2002 Year Group of Adisadel College old boys on Saturday formally launched its legacy project, the Clean Water Hub, opening a GHS 4.6 million effort to secure a dependable water supply for one of Ghana’s oldest boys’ boarding schools.
The launch, which the year group described as a major milestone, was led by its president, Clint Boa-Amponsem, and his executives. The project is being carried out under the chairmanship of Joseph Asamoah of the 1987 year group, known within the alumni fraternity as Santa 87.
The ceremony was graced by the guest of honour, Hon. Edmond Boateng, Honorary Consul of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to Ghana and Okyeman Amanonehene, who is himself a member of the 2000 year group. The headmaster of Adisadel College, Samuel Agudogo, was also present, and the year group acknowledged support from the Global Executive Council and from all year groups of the alumni body.
According to the organisers, the launch commences a project scheduled for commissioning in March 2027. When completed, the Clean Water Hub is expected to provide reliable and sustainable water for more than 5,000 students and staff on the Adisadel College campus.
The year group used the occasion to appeal to the wider alumni community for support. “The time for action is now,” the group said in a statement, calling on all Santaclausians to rally behind what it described as a massive initiative.
Water supply has long been a practical concern for large boarding institutions in the Central Region, where enrolment growth has often outpaced the expansion of campus infrastructure. For a school that houses and feeds its students year round, a steady supply of potable water affects everything from sanitation and health to kitchen operations and the daily routine of the boarding house.
The Clean Water Hub continues a tradition among Adisadel old boys of marking significant anniversaries with infrastructure gifts to the school. In recent years, the 1998 year group completed a multipurpose reading complex on campus, the 1999 year group championed a solar energy project, and the millennium year group unveiled a multimillion cedi legacy project of its own. Each initiative has typically been financed through contributions from members of the year group at home and abroad, supplemented by corporate partners and individual benefactors.
Adisadel College, popularly known as Adisco, was founded on 4 January 1910 in Cape Coast and has grown from an initial intake of twenty nine boys into one of the country’s best known second cycle institutions. Its alumni, the Santaclausians, are organised through the Adisadel Old Boys Association, which maintains chapters in Ghana and overseas, including a North America chapter that has been active in mobilising support for the Clean Water Hub.
With the project formally launched and the fundraising campaign now open, attention shifts to delivery. The eighteen month window between launch and the scheduled March 2027 commissioning leaves the 2002 Year Group with the twin task of raising the balance of the GHS 4.6 million and keeping construction on schedule, a challenge that previous year groups have shown can be met when the wider alumni network responds.
